Recently

two American women
sat opposite me
on the London Underground
and started talking
about someone
they both familiarly called
‘the cat-strangler’.

‘He’s very sweet,’
said the woman on the left.

To which the woman on the right replied,
‘He has a plastic bag.’

I got off at Hyde Park Corner,
hoping they were tourists.
