Love and Death, Again

After their brief divorce
during which Death slept with whores
and Love with choirboys
both the couple came to realise
none other could satisfy
their perversity.

Remarried in the same
Church as before: the same
Vicar, the same vows;
they moved back to the same house;
and the same arguments began,
again and again.

But despite such soul-corrosive hate
each knew themselves the other’s fate,
and neither could disprove
Love’s Death or Death’s Love;
and, for their many sins,
Love had twins.
