Finally, we got an answer to this one. It was worth the wait:

I mailed a friend who mailed a friend etc. and apparently the stuff
used to stick CDs to the front of magazines is called "Fugitive glue".

Link to a site concerned with fugitive glue:

This came, late in 2003:

I was following a completely different link and I found: http://www.thistothat.com
Which is a site about glue...

The faq (http://www.thistothat.com/faq.shtml) has this entry:

>I want the glue that's used to hold inserts in magazines

A very cool and specialized glue! It does its job then you can roll it into ball and ... well, have a ball with it. The glue that is used for "tip ins" (magazine jargon) is referred to as a Peel and Stick glue. The company that our magazine specialist uses in Canada is Reichold Chemicals and the product # is 84469. Reichold's phone number is 1-800-711-2405

Armed with this knowledge, google comes up with:

http://www.gluesquare.com/

And not a lot else...

Strangely, quite a few people visiting the site (three per cent) seem to be doing so in search of information on fugitive glue.

Any further information on fugitive glue, or glues in general, will be gratefully received.
