Adaptable Poem in Praise of the Current Political Regime

these men and women who, just as surely as our nation is great, have

been appointed by God
received the mandate of free and fair elections
overthrown the horrendous corruption of the previous regime
achieved power as the inevitable result of irresistible historical forces

let them be unswerving in their pursuit of

justice
economic prosperity
Jerusalem
their stated aims

let the stability which they are endeavouring to pursue be achieved even

if necessary with the declaration of maritial law
at the cost of short term economic hardship

grant them the repose of their official residences and full enjoyment of their

swimming pools
husbands and wives, sons and daughters
beauty and health
hard fought-for peace-of-mind

bring them safely back from diplomatic travels in foreign countries where their ways are

dissimilar to our own
inferior to our own
proof that Satan still stalks the planet
quaintly humourous

long may they thrive, our governors, long may their blood run
through the corridors of state.
